Love my eco-friendly banking!

I just love my Aspiration account! I got the Zero Credit Card and it's fantastic knowing my spending isn't hurting the planet. The Plant Your Change feature is so cool, it actually plants trees for me just from my everyday purchases. I'm really happy with how easy the app is to use, and seeing my Impact Points makes me feel good about my financial choices. I am definitely going to keep using them and tell my friends about it!

Good for the sign-up bonus

I opened a Spend & Save Account for the new account offer I saw online. The $150 bonus posted to my account within the promised timeframe after I met the direct deposit requirement. It was a decent chunk of change for just setting up a new banking service. Seems like a good value if you're looking for an easy bonus.

Decent banking, some quirks

I signed up for the Aspiration Plus account a few months ago, mainly for the high-yield savings and the eco-friendly debit card. The setup process was fairly smooth online, no major hiccups there. Deposits go through quickly, and I've used the mobile banking app for bill pay without issues. The Impact Measurement feature is neat, showing how my spending affects the environment, which is why I chose them over a regular bank. Support was helpful when I had a question about setting up direct deposit, they responded to my email in about a day. My main minor gripe is that sometimes the app can be a little slow to load, but it's not a deal-breaker. Overall, it's a solid option if you care about sustainable banking.

How does Aspiration stack up against something like Chime or Ally? Is it really better for someone trying to be more eco-conscious?

P Paul Jones 2 days ago
If you care about the eco stuff, Aspiration is definitely more focused on that than Chime or Ally. They have actual programs for it.

Aspiration's main differentiator is the environmental focus, which Chime and Ally don't really have. For just basic banking, they're all pretty similar, but Aspiration lets you do more 'green' investing and spending.

Does Aspiration actually do anything good for the environment or is it just marketing fluff? I want to make sure my money's actually going to something impactful.

From what I gather, they do. They have the Plant Your Change thing where they plant trees, and they say they don't invest in fossil fuels. Seems legit to me.

They definitely try to. They have a GreenFi score for businesses and you can track your impact, plus the Redwood Fund. It's not just talk, they've got programs designed for it.

How long does it typically take to get the debit card after opening an account? I need to use it pretty quickly.

M Matt B. 3 weeks ago
Mine took about a week and a half, maybe less? It wasn't super fast but not forever either.

I think mine was like 7-10 business days. Pretty standard for a new card in the mail.

I saw something about a sign-up bonus. How do you get that? Is there a special code or something I need to enter?

S Susan T. 3 weeks ago
Usually, it's tied to a referral link or a specific landing page when you open an account. They don't really do promo codes like for an online shop.

R Rachel Moore 3 weeks ago
Yeah, check if a friend has a referral link. That's how I got mine. Or sometimes they have offers directly on their site for new accounts.

Hey, thinking about switching to Aspiration. Anyone know if my money is actually safe there? Like, what if something happens to the company?

S Sam J. 1 month ago
Yeah, they're like FDIC insured, so your money up to a certain amount is protected, same as a regular bank. It's not a bank itself, but the accounts are with partner banks that are insured.

They are! I looked into it before I signed up. Your deposits are covered through their partner banks. It's pretty standard for these online-first financial services.
